All Lives of Every Color Matter!

Standard

I am a Granny to five precious little grandbabies – two of whom are bi-racial. You can look at them and have no question that they are Hispanic. They look different from their stepbrothers & sister.

Do their parents (& we as their grandparents) have ‘The Talk’ with them that President Obama spoke of on Wednesday 12/03/13 after the ‘no indictment verdict came down in the New York City  case of Eric Garner’… the talk the President and every parent of color have with their children on how to interact with the police? Is it necessary in 2014? Well, here in Phoenix, Arizona, sadly it will be. We have to point out to these beautiful, precious, little souls that they are ‘different’! Don’t people understand that ‘Every life matters & every life is precious’.

In Martin Luther King Jr’s speech he said that we, as a nation must live up to our creed“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.” And, ‘I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character”.

The “Hands up, don’t shoot” protest made its way to the NFL – but the backlash against the St. Louis Rams for their Sunday game day show of solidarity with the people of Ferguson, MO was actually a second such display. The Washington Redskins secondary emerged from the stadium tunnel during pregame introductions Monday night way back in August of 2014, with hands raised and palms forward. It was the first of the sports teams to show that they understood the pain the people of Ferguson, Missouri, who are protesting the shooting of teenager Michael Brown. I wonder what this weekend’s games will be like?
